Sometimes, Nic wished he were a better person.
He liked to think he was a good person already. He liked helping people, being a travel nurse and all. He liked listening to conversations and giving advice. He liked to make people laugh and smile, liked to put on a show. Liked making sure his boys were straight and the girls were ok.
And yeah, he cheated on a girl before, and he still think that was the shittiest thing he could've done. But he could only learn and grow from it, right?
Like by being on a show where you're allowed to cheat on your partner! That was growth, right?
It wasn't like he was in the real world, where ogling Olandria next to her man, next to his friend, would be fucked up. He was on an island with no clocks to tell time with and no moral compass to stop him from doing shitty things.
Like admiring his friend's girl.
God, not even trying to rationalize it made him feel better.
Nic was an awful person.
And he was even worse for not prying his eyes away.
But how could he? Olandria was like a sexy disco ball—dark skin gleaming every time the sun so much as blinked at her. She was cracking jokes with Chelly on the chairs, her smile big and wide, and Nic was in complete awe every-time he saw her.
Nic remembered the first time he saw her, in that beautiful blue dress, smelling like cocoa and vanilla and something else that felt grown and sexy and mature. He's never smelled it on anyone else, but fuck he liked it a lot.
She was reserved, mysterious to the bone, and that part of him that made him such a good nurse wanted to examine every bit of her. How she thought, how she moved, how she felt-
God, how she felt.
Sometimes, like now, lounging on the couch watching her, he couldn't help but think back to their first kiss. Olandria kissed him like she knew exactly how to break him, and he was the type of asshole who loved a challenge.
The type of asshole who wanted to break her first.
Which led to their second kiss. She was blindfolded, and that pretty scent hit him again when he leaned in. He had hesitated, and Nic wasn't sure why. Maybe to give her the option to pull away? To decide that she liked the connection she already had and didn't want to explore anyone else?
Nic kind of wished she rejected him.
But she simply leaned in, and he hoped that she knew it was him. He wasn't sure if that would be the last time he kissed her, so he made sure to take his time with her—memorize the feeling of her face in his hands, her tongue sliding against his, her lips so perfect on his.
Nic needed one last fix before he quit her.
Except he couldn't quite quit her.
After the pieing, Cierra had giggled and asked: "Is Olandria that good? Damn I should've kissed her."
He wasn't sure how to respond. That exact sentence was why he liked Cierra so much—she was so chill, so confident, so fun. Calm. Not an ounce of insecurity rang through her, even when she was competing against Bell-a. She was just—Cierra was so good to him.
Too good to him.
So he kissed her as response, because he could never admit to her that he wished the coin landed on kiss instead of pie.
He was an awful person.
"Yo bro." Nic returned to reality and turned his head to Taylor.
"What's up?"
"Boy, I'm still mad at ya." Nic furrowed his eyebrows—he wasn't sure how mad Taylor was considering the shit eating grin on his face.
"What I do?" Nic asked in genuine confusion.
"Man, you took my girl in that damn cabin and carried her out like she was your girl or somethin." Taylor shot a fake glare at Nic, and Nic tried not to look as guilty as he felt. "Me and Cierra was just playing. But you?"
"I was just playing too," Nic tried with a laugh. He threw his hands up in surrender. "It wasn't anything, don't worry. You know Olandria only want you."
"Wasn't anything, bullshit! You want my girl?"
Fuck, was it that obvious?
The moment he found out he could kiss Olandria, that craving in the back of his mouth stood alert with need like a neglected sweet tooth. She had looked incredible—from her pretty doll-like face, her unbelievably sexy body, her astounding ass.
He tried—he really did want to play it cool. Give her a kiss or two and call it a day.
But the moment he closed that door and turned to look at her, the wind knocked out of his chest.
She looked stunning. Her lips were puckered, oh so slightly, and her eyelashes were batting up at him. Almost shyly, almost like she really had no idea what he'd do but she was excited regardless.
And that sweet tooth kicked in, because all he wanted to do was taste her.
He didn't know what it was, but every time he was with Olandria, he could feel his adrenaline pumping. Could practically hear her pulse racing. And Nic was absolutely addicted to that thrill.
"Y'know I love Olly," Nic replied calmly. "She's really cool, bro, you got a good one on you."
Taylor smiled, looking over at Olandria with pride. "Man, I'm glad to be back in bed with her. Seeing her with Jalen?" He sucked his teeth and Nic forced a laughed.
"Well, you can't fuck up now," Nic warned. "America wanted her with Jalen for some reason. Now you gotta show America why she should stay with you."
Taylor nodded seriously. "We been tight. We talk all the time, we cuddle a little bit. I kiss her a lot now too, cos she like to kiss now. And like—y'know how you say Cierra's your calm?"
Nic nodded, shifting a bit. Cierra was working out with Hannah and Iris. Cierra was his calm—she let him exist, and it was nice to just exist.
A little boring, but nice.
"Yeah, that's how it feels with Olandria, y'know. I feel like I can just be calm and not do too much, and she'll be cool with it."
Nic furrowed his eyebrows. Wasn't that the problem Olandria had said? That she wanted Taylor to do more? Taylor should be doing more.
He should be over there with Olandria, urging her to get in the pool with him, play a dumb game of chicken until they got tired. He should be making her food afterwards, and then going up to SoulTies to talk. He should be listening to whatever's going on in that complicated mind of hers, no filter to censor her. He should be kissing every square inch of her body, letting her know that all of it was perfect.
He should be over there with Olandria.
Nic clucked his tongue. "Just don't get lazy bro. Y'know, ladies like effort."
Taylor nodded easily. "Me and Ace plannin' a double date. Well—Ace is, for real, but it's gonna be fun."
Nic nodded and brought his smoothie up to his lips. It was warm now, after sitting there neglected, and he didn't really want it anymore. He set it down and then looked up.
Olandria laughed at something Chelly said. And then, like she knew—she always did—she made eye contact with Nic.
He could feel their pulses race together.
And then they quickly looked away.
