A/N: long chapter warning so sorry. Also, that heart rate challenge was a load of baloney I'm tired. Also yes—these are real people, it's a FANFICTION. So Nic and Olandria are fake in my book. Which means fake Nic and Olandria can do whatever I want and it won't be weird bc they're fake. Okay? Okay :D enjoy the read my little freaks :p
If Nic called Olandria beautiful one more time, she was going to blow up Fiji.
It was easier when he just stared at her like there was a lot he wanted to say but could never say it. Olandria could imagine the things he wanted to say, and if it was something like "you're beautiful," then she could feel hopeful and move on. Or even when he called her beautiful when they were just friends, she could take it how she wanted it.
But to actually hear it? And know that it was romantic? Know that it was because he wanted her? It made her want to build a wall in front of him.
Something bad was bound to come from this. Nic would get too invested, and she'd fall for it, and just as she'd expect him to catch her, he'd pull away. He'd leave Olandria with a bruised and battered heart and she'd never trust again.
So it was better not to trust now. The only person she did trust was Taylor. And that was because he didn't give her a reason to distrust him.
He didn't feed her false lies. He didn't tell her she was beautiful too quickly. He didn't do extravagant dates for her. He didn't cuddle her and kiss her for too long of a time. And even though Olandria often times craved those things, it was a good thing he didn't do it.
It would hurt even more than it did now if Taylor called Olandria beautiful and then kissed Clarke. It would hurt even more than the way it did when she gave Nic an opening to pull her for a chat, and he had sex with Cierra instead.
She'd rather feed herself hope with Taylor than be fed hope from Nic. She'd rather get the brutal truth from Taylor and choose to deny it than receive sweet lies from Nic and choose to believe it. Olandria couldn't handle another heartbreak.
Besides, what would Cierra think? Every time Nic made Olandria giggle, she could imagine Cierra back at Casa, crying over Nic. Every time Nic rubbed her arm, squeezed her hands, brushed a braid out of her face, call her eyes pretty—Olandria could see it like a recording, the image of Cierra telling Chelley that she missed Nic, and wanted to be with him.
Olandria couldn't do that. She couldn't hurt Cierra. She had to protect her friends and herself from her irrational desires, and go to where everything made sense, even if it was painful.
Which was why, even as she tried to resist the urge to cry, she let Taylor explain his connection to Clarke. He talked about the girl like he could see a future with her. Like she was someone that really took his breath away. It made Olandri wipe the tears budding at the corner of her eyes as she glared at the bright Fiji skies.
Taylor wasn't thinking straight. He was thinking with his dick. Men did that a lot. But he'd realize it—two, no three weeks of getting to know and understand each other would withstand his lustfulness.
Olandria worked so hard on their relationship. All that work couldn't be for nothing. Taylor was safe. Olandria just had to keep him safe.
Which required more work.
After showering, she wore a sexy black dress that she hoped would get Taylor's heart pumping. Olandria prided herself on her sexy body, and if Taylor wanted to think with his dick, then she'd give it a direction to point at. After finishing her hair, Olandria made it to the staircase with the girls.
