Beyoncé was lying on her side, her soft curls spilling over the pillow as the glow from the early evening sun painted golden streaks across her bare skin. My hand rested on the smooth curve of her stomach, gently rubbing in slow circles, still in awe that our babies were growing right there. Four months along, and she was showing more each day.
She'd been hiding it from the family for a while now, and honestly, she'd been doing a damn good job. But tonight, I could feel something shift in her.
"I think we should tell them soon." she said softly, not taking her eyes off the ceiling.
I looked up at her, my thumb brushing across her skin. "Yeah," I agreed. "We should. But..."
"But what?" she asked, eyes finally meeting mine.
I gave her a half-smirk. "I think we should wait. Until the trip."
Beyoncé turned her body slightly to face me, arching an eyebrow. "What trip?"
I grinned like a kid keeping a secret. "We're going to Maui."
Her mouth parted slightly in surprise, then she laughed. That soft, beautiful belly-laugh I never got tired of. "You planned a trip?"
I kissed her belly. "I planned everything. Flights, villa, the works."
She gave me a playful suspicious look. "You really been out here playing travel agent without telling me?"
"I had help.." I admitted with a grin. "Blue had the best ideas. And we wanted it to be perfect."
Beyoncé looked at me closely then, really looked like she knew there was more. I couldn't help the way my chest fluttered just thinking about what I had stashed away in the drawer in the back of the closet.
The ring was finally ready.
I had it custom made with the words I love you on the inside. Elegant, bold, timeless. Just like her. When Lorraine placed it in my hand yesterday, my heart damn near exploded.
I couldn't stop staring at her... at the fullness of her cheeks, the way her skin practically glowed under the soft bedroom lighting, the curve of her belly now showing more each day. She was carrying our babies, and somehow that only made her more beautiful to me.
She turned to face me, her eyes already speaking what her mouth hadn't.
"What?" I asked, smirking as I laid back against the headboard.
"You..." she said. "Being so damn sweet, planning trips, handling everything... making me fall for you harder than I already have."
Her fingers gently touched the chain around my neck before trailing down my chest.
"You love me?" I asked playfully, whispering it close to her lips.
She smiled, brushing hers against mine, but not quite kissing me yet. "I'm in love with you," she whispered back, her voice low and thick with meaning. "And I want you."
Her words hit deeper than just lust... they pulled something in me that only she could reach. I kissed her, slow at first, pouring every ounce of how much I missed her touch into it. Her hands cradled my face, her breath catching as our lips danced, as our bodies pressed closer like they couldn't get enough of each other.
"You've been full of surprises lately." Beyoncé said, pulling back.
I wrapped my arm around her, breathing in her scent. "It's only the beginning," I whispered.
She didn't know what was coming.
But in Maui, under the sky, with the ocean at our feet and our family around us, I was going to ask her to spend forever with me.
