a/n: idk what's wrong w irl coco but book coco is truly that bitch
The lights flickered and Chelley felt like she was in a fucking spy movie.
Ace and Coco immediately slid out of bed. Chelley pulled herself away from Chris and followed them. They couldn't talk, couldn't wake anyone up.
Chelley was fucking terrified. What made them think that Harry wasn't asleep? What if Harry left something in his office and he caught them snooping in his office? What if-
"Chelley, you good?" Ace asked.
Huh?
She blinked and realized that she froze up while Coco and him were almost down the stairs.
"I think I have anxiety," Chelley replied bluntly. "I actually think this show gave me anxiety,"
Like, actual anxiety. Chelley was a model before this. Chelley said what she wanted to say and did what she wanted to do and was catered to and admired. Chelley loved the spotlight and the perks that came with it. Chelley knew she had a pretty face, a pretty body, a pretty personality.
And yes, there were anxieties she had that came with being a black woman in America, a black Haitian woman in America. But that was why she solidified her sense of worth, why she treaded the world with an unbreakable grace.
And somehow this show was slowly starting to chip away at that grace and leave her a wrecked mess.
"You're okay," Ace said, reaching his hand out for her to grab. "They won't say nothing to you."
"What if we get kicked out? Or what if Harry lies on us? Or what if-"
"I'll blow this whole villa up," Coco interrupted simply, her pretty eyebrow arched like a loaded slingshot. "Swear I will. Say I won't."
"Coco-"
"Say. I. Won't."
"Nah fuck that," Ace said, matching her tone. "I'll blow this whole island up,"
"This island and the neighboring ones," she doubled down without hesitation. "Let them say something to you."
Something told Chelley that Ace and Coco weren't joking. She walked down the stairs, and Ace engulfed her hand in his, giving her a reassuring look. "We're good, okay?"
Chelley nodded, her nerves settling a bit.
Coco eyed their hands but didn't say anything—just crossed her arms over her chest and began leading the way. Ace noticed too, and he made a face of concern.
If it wasn't one thing, it was always another.
They walked into the confessional room—the one room that conveniently did not have any wall cameras—just the big stand one in front of the couch. It was dark since the lights were off, but they were eyeing the big door that was always closed. Ace said that it connected to the camera rooms—he saw once, when someone accidentally opened the door to one of his confessionals.
Coco turned the flashlight on and crept towards the door. She twisted the handle.
The door didn't budge.
Chelley's stomach dropped. "Is it locked?"
Coco tried to open the door again, jiggling the door handle. Ace tried, using a little more strength, and it still didn't open.
Chelley ran her hands through her braids. No way this wasn't going to work. They didn't even get in-
She caught something glint at the corner where Coco accidentally shined her flashlight. She stepped towards it.
