Mystery sits atop the roof of the apartment building, dangling his legs over the side. He watches the sun slowly sink beneath the city skyline, and the stars as they rise up to take its place.
He glances down at his hands before tying his hair back and away from his face. It's an intimate moment with himself, where he doesn't feel... watched. Where he can be himself without judgement.
That's the deal he made, after all. No more judgement. Just freedom to be.
Even if the cost wasn't worth it.
He forces his gaze back to the view that many would envy. The glittering city lights and the big, full moon. It's beautiful.
Mystery stays there for a minute, simply being. With his face uncovered and a wonderful sight in front of him, it's a peaceful moment.
Until it isn't.
"Mystery?" Jinu calls. The demon in question unties his hair, messing it up a bit to fully shield his features.
"What?" Mystery snaps, perhaps a bit too harshly.
Jinu approaches, his footsteps growing louder as he gets closer. He comes to a stop next to Mystery and stands there. "I was thinking about what you suggested. The blood bags. I think it's a good idea, and that we should do it."
Mystery considers it for a moment. While his initial suggestion was excellent, further reflection has found several flaws.
Breaking into a blood bank would be a lot of trouble. Yes they are demons, but security cameras and witnesses could easily identify them. They would run out of luck eventually, and would get caught.
But repeatedly kidnapping will not work for the long run. So many missing cases already, with all the souls being taken for Gwi-Ma. They need to find a solution, and they need to find it fast.
"We should hire more workers," Mystery says, drumming his fingers on the rooftop edge. He tilts his head, taking in the view of the moon. "We're getting big enough that it will raise suspicion if we don't have a full staff."
"That's... That's not what we were talking about," Jinu says, sounding a bit confused.
Mystery smiles. "No. But not having staff will look odd. We want to appear as a functioning group."
"Okay, that's a good idea I guess," Jinu admits as the pair watch Baby walk down the street and away from home. "But what about feeding? The blood?"
"We hire a staff member for that. We tell them that our manager has a condition. There are enough recorded incidents of her 'fainting' that it should be believable." Mystery swings his legs absently. "They'll think they're just giving blood for transfusions. But we can feed, and without suspicion."
Jinu makes a small sound. "Mystery, that's genius. I'll talk to her about hiring a full team. I'm sure we can find someone who won't ask too many questions."
Jinu walks away, and Mystery is left to himself again. With his face out of view, his other skills are more prominent. And that is what he scarified so much for.
