You get thrown across the floor, scraping your hands on the rough stone as you try to brace your fall. Your wrists twinge in protest and you lift your head to survey the demon realm once again.

It looks just as dreary as before, demons lingering and staring. Not hungrily this time, since you are no longer human. Now they watch on with disdain and fear. It's as if they've realized that their king won't spare their kind from his ruthlessness.

You turn your gaze to the roaring fire, a mix of pink and purple burning in front of you. You had been planning to come down here and defeat him, but how are you supposed to now? You have no weapon, no demon hunters, and are at his mercy.

"Back again, I see."

You stare unwavering at Gwi-Ma, refusing to react to his sick joke. You kneel there, cradling your wrist to your chest.

"Silent? That's quite alright. You'll be doing more listening than speaking anyway." Eyes seem to form in the flames, the fire appearing like a giant maw. "I've been watching you, through the eyes of that demon. The others learned to block me out, but not him. You're unique. I like that."

You feel revulsion at his comment. But you don't let it show, narrowing your eyes and saying, "Fuck you."

Something hard is knocked against the base of your skull, and you collapse. You struggle to say conscious, staring up through your eyelashes at one of the demons who brought you here. It has a rock slick with blood that it used to hit you with.

"Respect the king!" it hisses, spittle flying.

"Enough." Gwi-Ma's voice is loud, sending demons scurrying back. "She'll be no good to us dead."

"Apologies, my lord." The demon bows his head, taking several steps back. "She just doesn't respect you like she should! You're her king!"

The flames shrink down, fire becoming man. Gwi-Ma walks down the steps in a mortal form with curling horns and long black hair. He folds his hands behind his back, polished shoes clicking as he reaches the base of the stairs.

"I am the king," Gwi-Ma finally says, voice soft and yet still so crisp. Silence has fallen as everyone waits to hear what he will say next. "And you have disrespected me. I told you to leave her unharmed, and you just struck her. She bleeds."

The demon yelps, shaking its head frantically. "My lord! My king, please! No, I didn't mean it! I would never-"

But then it's writhing in agony, sinking to its knees and gripping its head. You've never heard such an ear-splitting sound than the one it makes out of pain. It makes your blood curl and the hairs on the back of your neck rise.

Gwi-Ma ignores the noise, gliding over to you. You try to pick yourself up, you really do, but you're so dizzy.

"Finally," he murmurs, stopping just short of you. "The fruits of my labour."

You manage to spit at his feet, propping yourself up enough so that your head isn't on the ground. "Fuck off, you asshole. I don't know what you think is-"

Gwi-Ma clicks his tongue, and then your throat closes. Panic washes over you and you claw at your neck, desperately trying to suck in air.

"I can still control you enough for that. You're in my realm, after all." Gwi-Ma's eyes flutter shut, and he relishes in your fear. He eventually relinquishes his control and lets you breathe. "You might be wondering why you're here. Why I've spared your life."
